Only a week out and the times they are a changin'.
Birth control pill and morality.
Unbelievable. When I was put on the pill just shy of my 21st birthday, it was for medical, non-pregnancy reasons. I am now 29, and my doctor would still rather have me on it than off of it, sex or no sex. At most it provides protection against developing ovarian and uterine cancer and has a host of other positives.
Liberal Christians actually exist.
I spoke about this a few posts back, asking why we don't discuss religion. There are a lot of religious folk in the party, but the Republicans have the lock on religion. Maybe liberal Christians being heard might move us away from the gay marriage debate, as there are other issues. I still don't see how it undermines man and woman unions when divorce is as high as it is. We've done a grand job undermining the sanctity of marriage ourselves.
At least I still have The West Wing.

Preach on with the West Wing, Brandi! I'm right with ya!
And I completely agree with your assessment of the left's surrender of religion to the Republicans. It's a crying shame we can't actually produce a biblical scholar on the level of Jed Bartlet. But still, it doesn't take a degree in theology to crack open the New Testament. I think by and large we on the left believe we invented charity, forgiveness, and mercy. We hold those tenets sacred, but an acknowledgment that we are endowed with those qualities by a higher power I think would be in order. We should also question those on the right who proudly, boastfully wave their Bibles what place those tenets have in their own lives.
I believe the Democratic Party is still the party of the people. I just think the people, if they're thirsty enough, will drink anything they are given. And unfortunately, we have failed to deliver.
